NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks, are they worth it?

Over the past few months there’s been a lot of hype over NYX products here in the UK as they have become available to buy at the majority of Boots stores across the country. A lot of people who have never heard of this brand before, are now obsessing over their makeup. Not just because of its beautiful packaging, but because of how affordable they are. It’s obvious that their most popular product is the Lingerie liquid lipsticks, and it is the one I will be talking about today.

They are available online and in boots stores for £6.50 each and come in 12 beautiful shades. The light nudes: Baby Doll, Satin Ribbon & Lace Detail. The pink nudes: Bedtime Flirt, Ruffle Trim & Push Up. The dark nudes: Honeymoon, Beauty Mark and Teddy. A light purple/lavender shade: Embellishment. A classic light nude shade: Corset. And finally, a warm red: Exotic. The picture below shows the shades that I currently have. These liquid lipsticks have a reasonable amount of pros and cons which make them a very good subject to talk about.

Firstly, you can’t deny that the colours are absolutely beautiful. As soon as you look at it, it’s almost certain that at least one out of the 12 colours will catch your eye and your first thought will be “I HAVE TO BUY IT!” And you really can’t complain the price either. At £6.50 each, NYX have made sure that these lipsticks are available for anyone to pick up & buy no matter what their profession. They also dry extremely quickly which is great if you are in a hurry! The final pro is that they are extremely long lasting and hard to get off, which means that you can eat whatever you want without worrying about applying it all over again.

LTR: Exotic, Bedtime Flirt, Embellishment, Honeymoon, Teddy
On the other hand, the fact that it is hard to get off is extremely frustrating and annoying. It takes a solid 2 minutes of roughly scrubbing your lips to get most of it off, and even then the colour will be stained on your lips. Scrubbing it off is no problem if you’re not wearing any makeup and are just trying out the colours at home, however if you have a full face of makeup on and decided that the colour doesn’t match  your eyeshadow, you will find that the makeup around your mouth will be rubbed off along with the lipstick, blood will rise to the surface of your lips and it will be slightly sore. If you have very sensitive lips, I wouldn’t recommend buying this!
Another annoying thing is that it will get on your teeth like ALL the time. The amount of times that I’ve worn them and then had someone tell me later “you have lipstick on your teeth” is slightly embarrassing. The major problem that I have with this liquid lipstick is that it’s not very opaque at all. I found that the colour Embellishment was best for explaining this. As you will see in the image below, with only one layer of it you can still see your natural lip colour showing through. When you add a second layer it will start to get sticky, it will really define the lines on your lips (if you have them) and some of your natural lip colour will still show. It will also feel extremely dry and uncomfortable.

It’s obvious that this product has many pros and cons, and whether you buy it or not is extremely up to you. The only thing I would recommend is putting a layer of lip butter or transparent lip balm over your lipstick if you do happen to wear 2 layers of it. This will make it much more comfortable to wear! The packaging is adorable and I wouldn’t have it any other way, for that I give it an 8/10. If I take into consideration all of the good and bad aspects of this product, I would have to rate the quality of it a fair score of 5/10.

Let me know what your favourite liquid lipsticks are!

    1. It’s not so bad with one layer but because some of the colours are so transparent you end up having to do 2 layers and that’s when it gets really dry! Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed the review 🙂 x

      1. I know what you mean; if I’m going to wear a liquid lipstick I want it to be as opaque as possible! And you’re welcome xx

      3. If you’re after matte lip products that aren’t drying they’re brilliant; they stay creamy but still last brilliantly! 🙂 You might prefer them to the Lingerie ones xx
